Move Your Body!

The #1 YouTube video last week was Beyoncé's "Move Your Body" music video, even though her video had no special effects, costume changes, or celebrity guests. Beyoncé worked her magic and made Michelle Obama's fight against childhood obesity look cooler and more fashionable than ever before. The pop chart diva revamped her 2007 hit "Get Me Bodied," and dubbed the new version "Move Your Body" in support of the first lady's "Let's Move!" healthy eating campaign.

In the following behind-the-scenes clip, students discuss their struggles to make better eating choices, and Beyoncé explains her desire to help spread Michelle Obama's encouraging message. "It's all about promoting the benefits of healthy eating and exercise," she said. "But what we want to do is make it fun by doing something that we all love to do. And that's dance."

Now let's watch the video!

What did you think of Beyonce's video? Do you think Michelle Obama's fight against childhood obesity will be successful and/or make a difference? Will Beyonce's support help her campaign? Do you struggle with healthy eating and exercise? If so, does Michelle Obama's campaign and Beyonce's music video encourage you to do better? Why or why not?

Mrs. Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity is a good thing. Americans are the biggest they have ever been and the heart disease statistics bear it out. The support of big names like Beyonce can only help this campaign. However, I do not think that most Americans will pay attention to it. And that is sad. I struggle with weight issues and trying to get enough exercise in. But it is not nearly as easy to keep the pounds off as when I was younger.

Lauren...I like Beyonce's video because it was very simple. There was no fancy costumes or special appearances. I think that her video will definitely help promote Michelle Obama's childhood obesity campaign. Childhood obesity is a growing factor and I think that anything could help. The video may make people want to get up and move. I liked the video and it made me want to get up and dance with them.

I hope that the campaign against obesity makes a difference. With support from visible, "Cool", stars such as Beyonce, it may work. With our society growing steadily more obese, and with increasing access to fatty foods, the only way to truly make a difference in this way to change peoples eating habits, hopefully early in their life.

Matt: I think the video was done very well. I'm sure it took them days to actually get the dance to a point in which they could all perform it without any problems at all. In terms of whether or not it will help aid obesity or not, I'm not sure. Children today are becoming obese because of all the distractors that are available. However, she is making an effort, and that's more than what can be said about most, and for that, I applaud her.

I'm sure Beyonce's video will gain some support for Michelle Obama's campaign. However, people eat what they want to even if it's bad for them so I'm not sure how successful her campaign will be.

I think Mrs. Obama fight against childhood obesity is a good thing. More and more kids at the younger age are becoming over wieght. Which is not good for kids health. I also think that Beyonce's video will help her capmaign, because many young kids look up to her as a role model.

Tee: I like Beyonce's video, it's pretty catchy! I don't think the campaign will really make a difference, and I find it stupid that the Cookie Monster on Seasame Street is being replaced with a Veggie Monster. I hate how much control the president's wife has over the media. Leave the Cookie Monster alone. Kids are going to be fat regardless. Just because they see the Cookie Monster doesn't make them like cookies. I think Beyonce's support will help her campaign. I'm not affected by the campaign at all; I eat what tastes good.

Beyonce’s video was pretty good. Michelle probably could reduce some of the childhood obesity but probably not all of it. The kids have junk food at home so not everyone will change their ways.

Chris Says… I very much enjoyed watching Beyonce’s video, I’m sure if some kids watch this they well get inspired and work out and eat healthy. I’m sure she will support Michelle Obama’s Campaign and do everything she can to help it.

LaKendra... I think that it as great that Beyonce has decided to help Michelle by doin this video. Eating right and being healthy can be a big problem for some kids and I think that this may encourage some of them to get up and do something about it. Beyonce being a part of this campaign has probably been a big help towards Michelle. I usually get a good amout of exercise considering that I play a sport. I believe that this project could be a success.

Kristin says... Beyonce's video was great, and it will difinitely help Michelle Obama's campaign. It's hard to say if it will be successful or not because kids have to want to change. If they don't want to change then the video and the whole campaign is useless.

Ashley says... I like Beyonce's video!!! She is a good dancer and singer. For actresses and actors to support campaigns and care is a good thing! I think everyone that is part of this act is doing a great job. Mrs. Obama is doing a great job by spreading the word and helping kids. Kid with obesity is not good, so it's time for a change. Dancing can help stay active! Kids can start eating healthy and do an actvity everyday. That will help a lot. If a child has their favorite actress or actor up their doing it, then they will want to too. Kids look up to thses people, so Everyone is a role model to some one.

Sheron says…I don’t struggle with healthy eating or exercise. This video I think encourages dancing in all different forms. I think that Michelle’s fight will most likely be a successful one.

I really do not care about Michelle Obama to be honest. Beyonce is very retarded. I do not have a problem with healthy eating and exercise. What I have a problem with is idiots. I have diabetes and I experience discrimination do to that. Wonka, Hershey, Snickers, Nestle, they all discriminate against me. They make delicious, sweet, chocolate covered and filled, caramel filled, peanut filled, sweet, amazing, desirable, aphrodisiacs(foods, drinks, smells, or other agents that arouse sexual desire(chocolate is one)) that I can not eat because of the sugar content. It is diseaseist(racism against someone with a particular disease). Thanks a lot.... douche bags.

Greed is the essence of human existence. Obesity will be around for as long as we are. Obesity has been around for thousands of years. Literally thousands of years!!! It's never leaving us, and Mrs. Obama's attempts will go as unnoticed as a body on the side of a Detroit street.
