Boy or Girl?

My Advanced CIS 1st block class has a blog, and the students are responsible for creating the daily blogs. I stole this idea from Shaquii. Thank you!

What did you think of this video? Is it a good idea, and is it even possible, to allow a child to choose his or her gender? How long will the parents be able to keep the gender of their child a secret? Do you think this will have more of a positive or negative effect on the child? Why?

I do not believe that any child should be able to choose their own gender until they are at least 18 years of age. I do not believe that a small child can choose a gender. They are busy trying to learn how to operate in this world and need time to learn the roles of both genders. I think it would be very difficult to hide the gender of this child past the third or fourth birthday. A five year old boy dressing like a girl is just plain crazy. I think it causes too much confusion.

I think it would be negative to let the son dress as a girl. The parents should not give this child that opportunity until he is older. The gender of the child will not be able to be secret for long. A baby boy should not be dressed as a girl.

I do not think that this is wise. No matter the goals of the parents, the truth is the child will not fit into society. Even if he grows up well adjusted.

Jamie says…
I don’t think it fair for children to choose their gender. They were born the way they were. People should except that and let it be.

Madi... I don't think kids have the right to decide weather they want to be a boy or girl till they are old enough to really realize what they want. I don't think it will take long before the child find out their gender. I think it will have a negative effect on children, because they will end up having a hard time from other people.

Ernie says... I believe that you should not let the child choose what they want to be. Once the child grows up they will probably regret changing there sex. The parents should keep the childs sex as is.

Lauren...In my opinion, no young child should be able to choose their own gender. When the child becomes a young adult, they can then choose on how they wish to live their life. Young children already have to learn how to live in this crazy world and choosing genders makes everything so confusing. I would be very confused if I saw a five or six year old boy wearing dresses and playing with baby dolls. Children are made one way to live that way. I think that this may have a negative effect on the child because others will joke on them and the child may become very confused about which gender they would like to be. It is not so easy to be both a boy and a girl at the same time.

Matt: I have no problem with people choosing their genders. To do so is their own perogative. But they are making an example of a child simply because they want to see how it plays out. This is not right.

Robbie says.. I dont really think they should care what the kid wants to be. If he wants to be a girl then let him be one. I think its weird but thats my opinion.

LaKendra... I don't believe in a child being able to choose their own gender. A child should be raised as the gender they were born into. They are sending their child into the world with a big risk. Teasing and bullying could be an extreme part of this child's life. It is also possible that the child grows up and becomes upset with the parents because their decision. This is something that I would never do to my child!

Ashley says...I think it's just right out crazy!!!! When the child is born that's when you know what the sex of the baby is and you shouldn't have to play the game, oh I don't know what my child is. The children should not be able to choose what gender they are and since their young the parents are the one who are telling them how to act and what to wear. A child dosen't know everything, so it's just not them. By the time the kids around their teenage years the secret will come out of how the child acts. I think its a bad idea about it but it's their life. Something needs to to be spoken about all of this to people. They don't know right from wrong. To make abook about it is not a good influence on kids!!You are born the way you are.

Destiny saids...I agree what Lauren says.I think that it would be confusing having to choose to be a boy or a girl. I don't think the parents made a good ideal.

Chris says… I think this video is bad because I don’t think people should let their kid act like that. But when I have kids if it’s a boy it’s going to stay a boy.

Kristin says... A child shouldn't be able to choose their gender. It's ridiculous. You should be raised what you were born. These parents won't be able to keep their child's gender a secret for very long because boys and girls have different bodies, and children ask questions. I think it will have a negative effect on the child because he/she is growing up not be told about him/herself.

I think it's weird why they would let their baby be what they wanted to be and they were hiding it. I guess it's there choice. I guess they can keep it a secret for as long as they want. It will have a more negative effect on the child because they're not guiding them.

Wow... New levels of stupidity... If it has a penis it's a boy, if it has a vagina it's a girl. STFU and stop being difficult and moronic.

Wait until it goes into the wrong bathroom. Or if it is a boy until it exposes itself in public. You will not know effects until it is older. These people may slightly be retarded. As time goes you may see a cross dresser develop. This will lead to hate crimes not limited to rape or murder.

I don't think that they should let their children choose their gender. You should be what gender you were born to be. I don't think they can keep this secret for long, becuase children ask questions and girls and boys have different bodies. I think this will have a negative effect because they will get picked on or be outcasted. They could also be confused about who they are.
